Computing

Our Computing Curriculum Intent

Children are growing up in an increasingly technological world; many of them have never known a world without the internet. Technology is now a central part of everyday life, and it has transformed how we communicate, work and live. At Valley, we believe that all children should have the knowledge, skills and confidence to use it effectively, safely and responsibly.

Our computing curriculum aims to inspire curiosity, creativity and problem-solving. Through a range of practical and engaging experiences, across the curriculum, children learn how technology works, how to use it to create and communicate, and how to solve problems using computational thinking.

We want our children to become confident and capable users of technology, while also understanding its opportunities and risks. E-safety and digital citizenship are an important part of our curriculum, helping children to make sensible choices, protect themselves and others, and behave respectfully online.

As children progress through the school, they develop a broad range of digital skills and an understanding of how technology is changing the world around them. We want every child to leave primary school feeling prepared for the future, able to use technology positively and confidently, and ready to be responsible, respectful and safe digital citizens.
